We have been married for 65 years.

If you want to stay married, just go half and half with everything. If you want to do something and he don’t want to do it, you do it. If he wants to do something and you don’t, you let him do it. And of course, you do things together.

My wedding suit cost me a dollar! It was a Hall and Marks suit too. My sister in law worked in the business. I wore a blue blouse and Barney had a blue tie and blue flowers on us both. After the wedding, we went to dinner and my brother in law wore my hat on his head! Later, I dyed the suit brown.

Joseph Medill Patterson, Captain Patterson, was Barney’s boss at the News and such a handsome, generous man. His chauffer gave us a ride to our wedding. He had a house on the Hudson and we went to parties with all the stars there—the mayor, the governor, even Loretta Young was there. I saw John Garfield, Marilyn Monroe. Hedda Hopper was there and I wanted to ask for Monroe’s autograph but Hopper told me to come back later.

On our honeymoon, we drove out to Chicago. And who did we see in the Loop. Captain Patterson! He gave us tickets to a ball game and to a popular radio show.
